If Ryan was to spend the weekend baking, it had to be macho baking. A normal gingerbread house seemed pretty boring to me too, so we decided to do a castle. We should have used a different recipe- it turned out really dark and cakey, instead of the light and crispy walls I would have preferred, but oh well. We had to bake four batches of stuff- it took practically all day yesterday to bake and assemble, then we decorated it this morning. It's a battle scene- the red gummy bears are protecting their castle, but the multicolored army is invading. Some fun parts are the white bear climbing up the licorice rope on the left front tower (first picture), and the alligators eating two of the enemy bears. Some bears are bleeding red icing. I think the drawbridge turned out nicely as well. In case you're wondering, the moat was made by crushing up blue hard candies, putting them in a tinfoil mold, and melting it in the oven.
