I'm such a bad blogger these days. It's been an entire week already!
So...last week... Tuesday I was just going to go to poker night to watch, but then I found out that Ian is happy to make loans. With a little hesitancy (didn't want to further my debt) I "bought in" for $10. But I got really good cards that night, and worked my way from -$10 to +$6 during regular play. Then I bought into a tournament for $5, and was the first one out, but I left with a dollar in my name, which is more than I came with. Right after getting home I started checking away messages and found out that Corinne and Kathy needed help folding rush letters, so I went up to Corinne's and helped for a half hour until they were finished.
Around Wednesday I developed a cold that still hasn't gone away 100%. Nothing horrible, but that's had me feeling fairly crappy. I called my mom that night to ask for money, and she said that coincidentally she mailed me a big check that day. She wouldn't say why- told me I had to read the note. It came a day or two later, and it turns out that it's a combination birthday/early graduation present- $2000. Unfortunately, between rent, utilities, and general living expenses, it'll probably be gone by graduation :( It's good to have money right now, but I'll be needing more after graduation. No, I haven't been looking for a job like I should be.
Friday night I rented Breakfast at Tiffany's and watched it with Liz. We had wine and kettle corn- yum! Saturday night was Beta Ep's Founders Day, which sort of marks the beginning of me and Ryan getting to know each other. See, last year we were the only two Beta Nu's to spend the entire weekend up in Syracuse. Had I known that we were the only two, I probably wouldn't have gone, except that I needed to get away from my roommate. At the time I didn't know anyone from the other chapters, so I sort of had to stick by Ryan. But I didn't even know him that well, and there wasn't much conversation between us, and it was just generally awkward. I was really relieved when other Beta Nu's showed up for the banquet and party, and especially glad that Frank stayed over so I could drive his car back instead of enduring another painfully silent ride back to Ithaca alone with Ryan. Haha...my how things have changed :)
This year no one stayed the entire weekend, but a bunch of us went for the banquet and party. The banquet would've been decent except that the room was too small and some of us were put off in a side room away from the group. Then there was quite an ordeal getting all four of our group's cars to Krispy Kreme, Wegmans, and then the party. It's just a thing of mine to get stressed out when there's mass confusion and people yelling at other people on the phone while trying to pull U-turns, etc. By the time we got to the party, I was really on edge (hehe, I typed edgy the first time on accident), and it took me a half hour or so to calm down. The party was 80's themed, so it was fun to check out the crazy costumes, even though we didn't dress up. I wasn't feeling too well despite only 3 drinks in over an hour...I think it was because I was still getting over the cold, so I sat quietly with Ryan for a while. We got back to Ithaca at about 3 am, then had a meeting at 1 on Sunday.
And that brings us to today, Monday. Went to the lab from noon-4. Like last week, it started off productive, then I did more species identification work, which can be really frustrating because different sources say different things and I still can't conclusively say that the species formerly known as D. devario is in fact D. albolineatus. So I spent about two hours getting almost nowhere, and that had me quite irritated by the time I left. But I did get something done before that mess, at least. Once I got home I had a cup of coffee and some mint Oreos, and that helped me relax. Now I've got some laundry going. That'll probably be my only productive thing for the evening, though. I'm such a slacker these days as far as schoolwork goes! But it's senior spring and I've got an excuse- I was toiling over my thesis.
